Seoul, – Reports have emerged of cross-border fire having taken place between the armies of North and South Korea. The military clash is the first such incident since 2018. The exchange has drawn global attention as it has taken place within just 24 hours since the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un resurfaced. The month of April saw Kim Jong-un missing from a few official and public functions. His absence had sparked several speculations at the international level. Many media, as also analysts had claimed Kim to have died. His death was reportedly attributed to a failed surgery followed by a heart attack.
However, senior South Korean officials, as well as US President Donald Trump, had dismissed the claims about Kim’s death. On Friday, the North Korean media followed this by publishing photographs showing Kim Jong-un inaugurating a factory.
Just when these photos have laid to rest the rumours about Kim’s death, the report of firing at the Korean border between the two militaries has come to the fore. According to the information given by the South Korean army, the North Korean troops opened fire around dawn which got a retaliatory response from the South. With it, the North Koreans halted the firing. Both the sides are claimed to have sustained no losses of any sorts.
South Korea has clarified that no untoward incident took place in the entire day after the early-morning skirmish. Any mention of this incident is absent entirely from the North Korean media. Commenting on the encounter, the United States has supposed it to be an accident. The sudden engagement has once again brought forth the border tensions between the two countries.
