Condoleezza Rice backs Trump on Iran, says not “End of the world” if US quits Iran nuclear deal

Washington – ‘US allies love the Iran nuclear deal. It is fine if we want to stay in the deal for their sake but I don’t think it will be the end of the world if the United States leaves the agreement’, said former US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice backing the stance taken by the US President Trump on the issue of Iran’s nuclear program.

Drawing attention to the facts, Rice said, ‘the European allies are trying their best so that the United States does not withdraw from the deal. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel who were in the United States in the last week gave alternatives to US President Trump to stay in the deal. The US allies are claiming the Iran deal to have successfully paused the Iranian nuclear program’. Taking a jibe at the allies, the former Secretary of State said that the allies love the Iran nuclear deal as they have their economic interests locked in cooperation with Iran. It is fine if we want to stay in the deal for them but the United States would gain nothing from it; it would not be the end of the world if the US quit the nuclear deal, Rice made these indicative remarks while talking to an American news channel.

At the same time, the former Secretary of State criticized the Iran nuclear deal that was signed during the Obama presidency. ‘I would have never signed the deal that gives Iran economic concessions, loosens sanctions and relaxes the controls over its nuclear program’, clarified Rice in no unclear terms.

‘The United States has expressed concerns at  the Iranian nuclear program right from the time  it started. Every US administration has harbored doubts about Iran using its nuclear program as a garb for producing nuclear weapons’, said Rice. Rice expressed surprise at Obama administration having signed the nuclear deal with Iran despite these factors.

Criticizing the West for having failed to judge Iran’s nuclear program, Rice said, ‘The evidences presented by the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu about Iran’s nuclear program are enough to pin it. Iran has always lied to the world about its nuclear program which was again proved with the evidences Netanyahu has presented; the Iran nuclear deal too is an example to it’.
