Hamas is committing a double war crime; Israel will continue strikes on it: Prime Minister Netanyahu

Jerusalem/Cairo: “Israel will not rest until the security of its people is assured. Israel will continue to attack Gaza with full force. No matter what happens, Israeli attacks on Hamas will not stop,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proclaimed. The conflict between Israel and Hamas has entered its second week. So far, more than 200 Palestinians and 10 Israelis have been killed in the battle.

Concerns are being raised around the world that the fierce battle between Israel and Hamas could turn into a deadly war. Also, leading nations and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Israel is being pressurised to curb the attacks on Gaza. However, the Israeli prime minister has taken a decisive stand on the matter. “Israel will not rest until Hamas pays the price for the double war crimes it has committed,” Netanyahu said in a warning.

“Hamas has fired thousands of rockets and missiles at the Israeli people and at the same time used the Palestinian people as human shields. These are double war crimes by Hamas,” Netanyahu asserted. At the same time, the Israeli prime minister emphasised that Israel was only targeting Hamas locations in Gaza. Also, Netanyahu stated that he had presented evidence in this regard to the US special envoy. The Israeli prime minister also said that US President Biden is supporting him in the fight.

The Israeli military has intensified its attacks on the Gaza Strip after Prime Minister Netanyahu’s announcement. Hussam Abu Harbid, a senior Islamic Jihad commander, was killed in air raids launched by Israeli fighter jets. Besides, the Israeli military has declared that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who made a narrow escape in Friday’s attacks, and Mohammed Deif are among its targets. Therefore, the warnings of the Israeli leaders that the attacks will not stop without dealing significant blows to Hamas are materialising.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants had also fired a large number of rockets at the Israeli cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon since Monday evening. Three Israelis were injured in the attacks. In addition, Palestinian extremists rammed a motorcycle on Israeli soldiers stationed at a police checkpoint in the Sheikh Zarah area of East Jerusalem. Seven Israeli soldiers were wounded in the incident. A few hours ago, an Israeli soldier was even stabbed in one other incident.

In the wake of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a special meeting on Sunday. At the meeting, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan accused Israel of targeting the Palestinian people in Gaza. Simultaneously, Turkey proposed deploying an independent OIC military unit in Jerusalem to protect Palestinians from Israeli attacks. Pakistan immediately backed Turkey’s proposal. Other nations, however, called on Israel and the Palestinians to end the conflict without taking such an aggressive stance.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Blinken had a telephonic conversation with his Saudi Arabian, Egyptian and Qatari counterparts. The US Secretary of State is said to have taken into consideration the stand of all the three Gulf states over the Gaza conflict.
