Russia expresses strong resentment after US and NATO decline its proposal

Moscow / Washington – The United States rejected Russia’s main demand to refrain from making former Soviet Union countries from the last century become members of NATO. On Wednesday night, the US and NATO submitted a written response to Russia’s proposal. Hence, Russia’s primary demand has been rejected, informed Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Besides, Russia is resentful over the response by the US and NATO. It is being said that President Vladimir Putin would soon announce a decision.

US and NATOMoreover, Russia’s increased military deployment at the Ukraine border has raised an atmosphere of concern in the international community and Europe. Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin had forwarded the proposal of a ‘security pact’ to ease these tensions. Russia’s proposal had demanded that NATO should not grant membership to any country that was once part of the Soviet Union, including Ukraine and Georgia. At the same time, it also said that NATO should withdraw military deployments in Eastern and Central Europe and stop war exercises near the Russian border. The Russian proposal had also noted that both the United States and Russia should be banned from sending warships and fighter jets to launch attacks on the regions near each other’s spheres of influence.

Russia also had demanded that the United States and NATO submit a written response to their proposal. Responding to this demand, the US and NATO replied to Russia. The response was submitted to the Russian government on Wednesday night. Thenceforth, Russia has expressed solid resentment. The US and NATO have not considered Russia’s main demands but have indicated readiness to discuss other issues, Foreign Minister Lavrov said. The Russian Foreign Minister also criticised that no positive response was received, over any issue, from the United States and NATO.

US and NATOThe written response of the US and NATO has been forwarded to President Vladimir Putin, informed Russia’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, he claimed that Russia would respond to it soon. There are indications that Russia might respond aggressively as the US and NATO rejected Russia’s main demands.

Meanwhile, it has surfaced that Russia has sent its warships to the Black Sea region amid rising tensions over Ukraine. The fleet includes 20 warships together with destroyers and amphibious assault ships. At the same time, the Russian Defence Ministry has informed that naval war exercises had begun in the Barents Sea, which is part of the Arctic region.

Therefore, against the backdrop of possible conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the incidence of firing in such an important initiative draws attention.
