US initiates steps for providing long-term arms supplies to Ukraine

Washington / Kyiv – The United States has initiated vigorous steps to prolong the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The US defence department has convened a meeting of the leading weapon manufacturing companies in the country. Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks will chair the meeting. The sources claimed that US companies would be directed to increase production and speed up production to ensure an uninterrupted supply of arms to Ukraine. At the same time, US media have reported that President Joe Biden will announce an additional $750 million in defence assistance to Ukraine.

At the same time, the action of seizing complete control of Mariupol in south-eastern Ukraine is in its final stages. If both campaigns are successful, there are warnings that Russia will again attack the capital, Kyiv, and nearby areas. It is feared that Russia will use chemical weapons in the Ukraine conflict. Against this backdrop, the United States and the United Kingdom have begun preparing to provide defence assistance to Ukraine on a large scale.

Moreover, the meeting arranged by the US Department of Defense on Wednesday is considered part of that. Officials from Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics were invited to the meeting. The United States has supplied large arms to Ukraine over the past year. These include Javelin anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft Stinger missiles, armoured vehicles, drones, artillery, and rifles. Sources have indicated that the United States has planned to maintain the supply for the next two years and will issue suitable instructions to arms companies.

US President Biden will be announcing an additional $750 million in defence aid to Ukraine while the Defense Department organised a meeting of arms companies. Leading US media have reported this. Citing the White House that drones, tanks and helicopters were said to be included in the new defence aids.

The United States has provided $1.7 billion in defence assistance to Ukraine since the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This includes more than five thousand javelin missiles and more than one and a half thousand stingers. It is said that following Biden’s new announcement, aid is expected to reach around $2.5 billion. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has consistently demanded a large supply of weapons, and recent developments show that the United States has taken the most initiative to meet them. Following the US, even the UK has expedited movements to increase defence assistance. In the next few days, sources said a contingent of Ukrainian troops would arrive in the UK for training.

Meanwhile, Russia has increased the intensity of the attacks on parts of eastern Ukraine. At the same time, aggressive moves have been taken to gain complete control over the city of Mariupol. On Tuesday, the Russian Defence Department said that more than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers were detained in Mariupol. However, Ukraine has denied the allegations.
