Kyiv/ Moscow – The real intentions of the United States, which is supplying large quantities of arms to Ukraine and cornering Russia by imposing harsh sanctions on Russia, have come to light. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has said that he wants to see Russia so weakened that it should not be able to wage war again like Ukraine. War objectives of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine have failed, and Ukraine is winning, claimed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Austin and Blinken are on a tour of Ukraine. At this time, they also announced an additional $700 million in defence assistance to Ukraine.
Last week, Russia announced the second phase of its military campaign in Ukraine. At this stage, the goal of gaining control of eastern and southern Ukraine was announced. To achieve this objective, the Russian Defence Forces have opened aggressive fronts in areas from Kharkiv to the city of Odessa. Hence, Ukraine has to bear massive losses. At the same time, peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are in the midair state now. The US and the West have increasingly supplied arms to Ukraine in such a situation. They have also repeatedly guaranteed to provide all necessary assistance to continue the conflict against Russia. Against this backdrop, the visit of the US Secretary of Defense and the State Department to Ukraine and the open statements made in it led to attention. Earlier, US President Joe Biden had spoken out about the overthrow of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government and convicted him of being a war criminal. However, the US administration had given immediate clarifications over it. But Secretary of Defense Austin and Secretary of State Blinken are known as officials making responsible statements. Therefore, their statements are considered to reflect the actual policy and intentions of the United States.
‘We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things it has done in invading Ukraine,’ said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. At the same time, he claimed that Ukraine could win the war if it got the right weapons and equipment. ‘Russia is failing, Ukraine is succeeding,’ Blinken said. The United States also announced an additional $700 million in defence assistance in talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Meanwhile, Russia has announced that it is making a corridor available for the release of civilians from a steel factory in Mariupol. Russia has said the corridor would open on Monday. Ukraine denied the Russian announcement and said no such agreement was made. On the contrary, Ukraine has proposed holding a round of peace talks at a steel factory in Mariupol.
