Counterattacks will be launched on the provinces in South Ukraine under Russia’s control

Moscow / Kyiv – The Ukrainian military has begun moves to launch counterattacks in southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, provinces under Russia’s control. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk called on civilians of the provinces to evacuate immediately from the regions before these attacks. Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov also pointed out that a ‘million-strong army’ was being prepared to regain control over southern Ukraine. Besides, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Ukrainian forces have gained good success in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

CounterattacksThe Russian forces who have gained complete control over the Luhansk province in eastern Ukraine have also seized a significant part of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia provinces in southern Ukraine. Per the information published in the media and on social media, Russia has taken control of about 90% of Kherson and 75% of the territory of Zaporizhzhia province. Preparations are also said to have begun for a referendum in support of Russia in the Kherson. As part of the Black Sea marine region, these provinces are considered extremely important for Ukraine’s agriculture and trade.

Over the past few days, it has surfaced that Ukraine has been restless over Russia’s control. Last week, Ukrainian President Zelensky warned that the Ukrainian public would not leave their territory. It is claimed that the assistance will be helpful in recovering the lost territory of Ukraine despite the demand for advanced weapons from Western countries. Earlier, Ukraine had forced Russian troops to withdraw from the capital, Kyiv and Kharkiv. However, now moves have begun to launch counterattacks on Russia-seized provinces.

Moreover, statements made in this regard by President Zelensky, along with Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, become noteworthy. However, it revealed that there is resentment in western countries in this regard. While the Ukrainian military suffers heavy losses in the Donbas region, it becomes impossible for Ukraine to undertake a new action in southern Ukraine, say western leaders and analysts. Analysts clearly warn that given the success that Russia currently enjoys on the strategic front, it would not be possible for Ukraine to do things to counterattack them from southern Ukraine.

Meanwhile, while Ukraine planned a counterattack, Ukrainian agencies informed that Russia hit seven missiles on Odessa, a strategic port in southern Ukraine.
