Ukraine launches attacks on areas in South Ukraine under Russian control 

Moscow / Kyiv – Ukrainian military began attacks in the Kherson province in south Ukraine, which is under Russian control. Regions of Mykolaiv and Nova Khakovka were hit with helicopters and rockets, informed Ukraine’s Operational Command South. Russia claimed that six citizens were killed and 80 injured in the Ukrainian attack. At the same time, Ukraine has acknowledged that Russia intensified its attacks on Donetsk. 

Russian controlIn the past few days, consistent warnings had been issued from the Ukrainian leadership about counterattacks on Russian-held parts of southern Ukraine. It was also claimed that Ukraine had prepared a ‘million-strong army’ for this. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the Ukrainian military would regain Russian-held territory on the strength of weapons obtained from the United States and European countries. It has surfaced that the attacks in Kherson have prompted Ukrainian forces to launch an action. 

Besides, Ukraine said it had targeted weapons storage in the Russian-held area of Mykolaiv. At the same time, Ukrainian helicopters attacked Russian bases in Kherson. Ukraine targeted several homes, including a storage depot in Nova Khakovka in Kherson. Russia informed that six people were killed, and at least 80 were injured. It was claimed that Ukraine’s attack was the largest ever carried out on Russian-held territory. It is said that the HIMARS rocket system supplied by the United States was used in the attack.

Moreover, these Ukrainian counterattacks have made no difference to the Russian campaign in Donbas. On the other hand, Ukraine has acknowledged that attacks by Russia have intensified more in the Donetsk region. Ukraine says Russian tanks, artillery, rockets and missiles are scorching settlements in Donetsk. In addition to Donetsk, Russian forces have begun attacking the city of Kharkiv. It is also claimed that Russian troops have succeeded in seizing parts of Kharkiv. However, Ukraine denied the claim. 

Meanwhile, the state-run news agency TASS reported that the Russian Defence Ministry has developed new hypersonic missiles for the navy. The missile, named ‘Zmivik’, has a range of 4,000 km and will be capable of targeting large warships, sources claimed.
