Serbian President warns

Battle for Kherson will be decisive like the ‘Battle of Stalingrad’ in World War II

Moscow/Kyiv: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic warned that the ongoing conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian forces in the Kherson region of Ukraine could be a repeat of the ‘Battle of Stalingrad’ of the Second World War. Vucic cautioned that the ongoing battle for Kherson could be the decisive conflict in the Russia-Ukraine war. Even as the Serbian President’s statement was being released, the western media claimed that Ukrainian troops were facing strong retaliation from the Russian forces in the Kherson conflict.

Battle for KhersonRussia seized most of the Kherson province, including the city of Kherson, within the first few days of launching a military campaign against Ukraine in February. Therefore, the city and province of Kherson are considered very important for the Russian offensive in Ukraine. Ukraine, too, had targeted the Kherson province when it launched the counter-offensive a few months ago. After the initial success, the Ukrainian campaign did not make much headway. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian military has launched renewed offensives to capture more areas of Kherson city and province in the past few weeks.

In the wake of the rising attacks by Ukraine, Russia has also initiated strong actions for retaliation. Most of the citizens of Kherson city have been evacuated to safer areas. Besides, Russian President Vladimir Putin is said to have taken the initiative for this process. On the other hand, units trained during the new recruitment process of the Russian military have been sent to Kherson. Russia is said to have deployed new artillery guns, tanks, armoured vehicles, and rocket launchers in Kherson. It has been revealed from the Russian media and social media that Russia has formed a strong front to counter the Ukrainian attacks on the strength of this new deployment.

This Russian move has succeeded, and Ukrainian forces have not been able to achieve new success in Kherson. On the contrary, the Ukrainian troops launching attacks are facing strong Russian resistance, and a fierce fight is underway, the western media claimed. Even the Ukrainian authorities have issued warnings saying Russia has set up traps for the Ukrainian army in Kherson. In the wake of the events, the statement made by the Serbian President is noteworthy.

‘Challenging times are ahead of us. Next winter will be even harsher than this one because we may soon witness the Battle of Kherson. It would be decisive in the Ukraine War, just like the Battle of Stalingrad. The West [which is backing Ukraine in the conflict and supplying it with arms] thinks it’ll be able to ruin Russia that way, while Russia believes it’ll be able to defend what it obtained at the start of the war and bring it to an end. The conflict in Kherson will have big repercussions and is going to create additional problems everywhere,’ Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic warned.

During World War II, Nazi Germany invaded the Russian city of Stalingrad in August 1942. After an initial setback, Russia’s Red Army launched a counterattack in November. These counterattacks forced the German Nazi forces to retreat. It was the first major retreat of the German army in World War II.

Ukrainian President agrees to hold talks with Russia

Kyiv: Amid reports of US pressure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is ready to talk with Russia. President Zelensky said Ukraine is interested in the talks only if Russia sincerely intends to negotiate peace. However, it has come to light that Ukrainian President Zelensky has set certain conditions for negotiations with Russia. In it, Zelensky demanded that Russia relinquish control of all Ukrainian regions. However, Russia has made it clear that it will not leave the occupied Ukraine territories.

The Russia-Ukraine war is showing signs of intensifying with each passing day. Although Ukraine is bragging about taking control of Crimea, Western countries have repeatedly warned that this is not possible. Differences are surfacing even among the European countries, which are part of the Western alliance, over assistance provided to Ukraine. Some countries have taken a stand, stating it will not be possible for them to provide assistance in the future. Therefore, Ukraine has shown signs of not being able to sustain the extent and intensity of the conflict against Russia in the future. It is against this backdrop that Western countries have begun pressurising Ukraine, and it is apparent from Zelensky’s statement that he has bowed to the pressure.
