Moscow/Kyiv: On Saturday, Russia launched a massive strike on Kherson and the Donbas region. At least ten people were killed and more than 55 injured in the attacks on Kherson. Russian officials claimed that the Ukrainian army would soon relinquish control of Bakhmut in view of the intense attacks in Donbas. Even as Russia continues to launch these attacks, Ukrainian agencies alleged that Iran had supplied the Russian military with over 1,500 Kamikaze drones.
Russian armed forces have indicated their front in the region is still strong by attacking Kherson on Saturday. Last month, Ukrainian forces captured Kherson and forced the Russian army to retreat. After that, the Ukrainian president and senior officials bragged that the Ukrainian army would also take over Crimea. However, the Ukrainian military has not yet been able to capture any major or important city after the city of Kherson or even cross the Dnipro River. On the other hand, Russian forces are constantly attacking Ukrainian territory from the other side of the Dnipro River in Kherson city. Due to these attacks, Kherson’s electric and water supply has been cut off, and thousands of citizens have been forced to evacuate.
Along with Kherson, Russia is also carrying out major attacks in Donbas. On Saturday, major attacks with artillery, rockets and mortars were launched by Russia in the areas of Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Soledar. The Russian army has advanced and reached the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. Also, Russian officials have said Russia would take control of Bakhmut by next week.
Meanwhile, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has arrived on a visit to Russia. A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Belarus along with senior ministers. Defence and security issues were discussed during the visit. Currently, about 10,000 Russian soldiers are stationed in Belarus. Apart from this, fighter jets and air defence systems have also been deployed, and discussions are underway for nuclear weapons. Besides, Ukrainian and Western media have also claimed that Russia will launch a new attack on Ukraine from the Belarus front.
