Washington/Moscow: The Russian ambassador to the United States has warned that the US-led Western countries have put humankind on the brink of nuclear Armageddon. A few days ago, the UK announced that artillery guns that use shells with ‘depleted uranium’ will also be supplied along with the battle tanks. The UK and the US supported the decision to supply it despite a strong reaction from Russia. In response, the Russian ambassador lashed out at western countries.
‘It is futile to react to such stupidity. The US officials have reached a new low by making irresponsible statements. Western countries continue to supply deadly weapons to Ukraine. These weapons are being used against the common people. Despite being aware of this, western countries under the leadership of the United States are supporting the supply of nuclear material and bringing humankind to the brink of nuclear Armageddon,’ Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the United States, criticised.
The UK is leading the list of countries supplying arms to Ukraine. A few days ago, the UK announced it would provide Ukraine with advanced Challenger battle tanks. While giving more details, UK Minister of State for Defence Annabel Goldie announced that artillery guns with shells using “depleted uranium” will also be supplied along with the battle tanks. UK’s announcement has created a stir in Europe and international circles.
A sharp reaction has emerged from Russia over it, and President Putin’s warning is also a part of it. Russian Parliament Speaker Volodin warned that UK’s plan would be dangerous not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe. The Speaker of the Russian Parliament warned that the war fought till the last Ukrainian citizen would turn into war till the last European citizen. Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused the UK’s announcement of being a new provocation.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also highlighted the growing nuclear threat. “Considering the past few decades, the risk of nuclear conflict is at its highest level,” Ryabkov said. At the same time, Ryabkov also said Russia was presently not in a state to reconsider the ‘New Start Treaty’ with the United States.
