Ukraine launches another drone attack on Crimea

Kyiv/Moscow: Ukraine carried out another drone attack on Russia’s Crimea. On Saturday night and early Sunday morning, 10 Ukrainian drones targeted Crimea’s Sevastopol port and other areas. The Crimean Governor claimed that Russia’s air defence and electronic warfare systems repulsed the Ukrainian drone attacks. In the last 24 hours, the Russian Defence Ministry informed that 22 Ukrainian drones had been destroyed in the Black Sea. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the attack on Zakhar Prilepin, a Russian military blogger, as an act of terrorism carried out by Ukrainian forces.

drone attack, CrimeaOver the past few weeks, Russia has launched intense attacks in various Ukrainian regions and is expanding its scope consistently. Missiles, drones, rockets, mortars, artillery guns and tanks are being fired continuously. Ukraine and the Western institutions and media have also admitted that the Russian Army is constantly launching attacks on Ukraine. Ukraine seems to have adopted the option of launching drone strikes in response to these Russian attacks. Over the past month, Ukraine has targeted the capital Moscow, Crimea, Belgorod, and Bryansk with drones. These attacks are proving to be more or less successful.

On Saturday night and Sunday, Ukraine once again carried out drone attacks on Crimea. The drones targeted Sevastopol port in Crimea and nearby areas. A total of 10 drones were used for the attack. The Crimean governor informed that these attacks were repelled by Russia’s air defence systems and electronic warfare systems. He also claimed that no part of the city was damaged.

Social media channels in Ukraine have published posts of damage to two parts of Crimea, although it has not been confirmed. Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that as many as 22 Ukrainian drones have been destroyed in the Black Sea region since Saturday night. Ukraine has carried out three drone strikes in Russia’s Crimea region in the past nine days. In one of these attacks, photographs showing a massive fire at a fuel depot were published. In 2014, Russia invaded Crimea and took control of it. Sevastopol City in this province is recognized as a very important port in the Black Sea region. This port is also the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, and many Russian warships and submarines are stationed there. The capture of Sevastopol is considered decisive for control of Crimea. That is why Ukraine seems to have made this city its target for the past month.

Meanwhile, Zakhar Prilepin, a military blogger, was seriously injured in a bomb blast in Russia’s Novgorod province on Saturday and is said to have slipped into a coma. Prilepin’s car driver died in the explosion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia alleged that the blast was a terrorist attack and that Ukraine , and the United States were behind it. It marks the second attack on a pro-Putin Russian military blogger in the past month. In April, another military blogger Vladlin Tatarsky was killed in an explosion by a woman.
