President Trump indicates a US ban on Alibaba and other big Chinese firms

Washington: After imposing a ban on Huawei ByteDance and Tencent, US hints at imposing a ban on Alibaba and other Chinese companies. US President Donald Trump has recently released a statement on the matter and warned of intensifying action against China. On the sidelines of the warning, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced blacklisting 38 firms affiliated with Huawei. The US-China trade war is showing signs of further escalation given US President’s remarks and Pompeo’s announcement.

Alibaba, अलिबाबाA few days ago, President Trump had announced sanctions on TikTok and WeChat. In his executive orders, Trump had affirmed that Chinese companies ByteDance and Tencent, which owned TikTok and WeChat, were supplying personal information on Americans to the Chinese Communist Party. Furthermore, President Trump went on to say that the issue was a matter of national security since the information could be used for blackmail and espionage. At the time, sources from the Trump administration had indicated a possible extension of the ban on other Chinese firms as well.

President Trump’s remarks only corroborate these claims. When asked at a press conference whether he was going to extend the ban to other Chinese companies such as Alibaba, he answered he was looking into it and also, into other proposals. A ban on Chinese tech giant Alibaba may deliver a fresh blow to the Chinese Communist regime.

Alibaba,अलिबाबाUS President Donald Trump is engaged in a trade war with China from 2018. As part of the trade war, Trump had initiated action against the dominance of Chinese companies in IT, telecommunications and internet industries of the US. President Trump had even issued a ‘national emergency’ raising the concerns over national security at the time. Given the Coronavirus pandemic, Trump appears to have intensified action against China.

In the meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, announced blacklisting the 38 firms that are engaged in transactions with the company Huawei. Pompeo justified the decision asserting the companies were still carrying out operations by circumventing the US restrictions. Only a few days ago, Pompeo had declared a ‘Clean Network program for dealing a blow to the Chinese influence in the information technology and internet industry.
