Washington – The US Biden administration and security agencies have claimed that China is unlikely to attack Taiwan in the next few years and that it may invade after 2026. However, there are reports that China has been preparing fiercely to attack Taiwan. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has deployed advanced Dongfeng-17 missiles on its southeast coast. Besides, US warfare analyst has warned that China is preparing to attack the bases of countries supporting Taiwan in this war along with Taiwan. The US analyst says it may be difficult for the US to target these China-deployed missiles close to densely populated areas.
In addition, China has increased the intensity of its military activities in Taiwan’s air and sea areas. China sent its 37 fighter aircraft and seven patrol vessels to Taiwan on Saturday. It is claimed to be China’s largest patrol close to Taiwan’s airspace since last week. Moreover, the Taiwanese leader says China was showing such aggression to test Taiwan’s response. In such a situation, Taiwan has organised a military exercise next week. International analysts say that China is warning Taiwan before the exercise.
Also, the Taiwanese leaders had expressed concern that China could attack Taiwan by taking advantage of the entire world’s attention being focused on the Ukraine conflict. Furthermore, Taiwan claimed that China would launch more military and cyber attacks on them. Taiwan has organised its biggest-ever drone drills next week to counter Chinese military aggression, especially to take control of its islands in the East China Sea region. It will also include patrol and attack drones.
Moreover, the US think tanks and analysts have also drawn attention to the fact that China’s anti-Taiwan military aggression is not limited to the patrolling or incursions of aircraft and destroyers. Besides, China has deployed ballistic missiles with a range of 1,000 km near its southeast coast. Decker Eveleth, an analyst at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, said this information about the Chinese deployment could be found through satellite imagery.
At the same time, Kapil Kajal, warfare analyst of Jane’s Asia-Pacific think tank, claimed that China had deployed Dongfeng-17 missiles to target Taiwan and foreign military bases and warships in the western Pacific region. China can fire these missiles through a hypersonic glide vehicle. Hence, Kapil Kajal drew attention to the fact that these missiles, which are five times faster than sound, will also be difficult to find on radar, and it will be difficult to shoot them down. Moreover, the analyst has claimed that even the US THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense), SM-3 (Standard Missile 3) and Patriot air defence systems deployed in Japan and South Korea and on Guam Island cannot destroy missiles with a speed of five to ten Mach.
