Political activities gain momentum given possible Iran-US war

London: Russia and China have warned the United States against an attack on Iran, stating that it would have severe consequences. The stance of the two countries only strengthens Iran. The European countries, which are firm on supporting the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, have also initiated strong political moves to diffuse the tensions between the United States and Iran. Accordingly, the British Foreign Secretary is scheduled for a visit to Iran on Sunday.

On the other hand, Saudi is pursuing attempts for strict action against Iran as also to teach the Islamic Republic a lesson. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir is currently on a visit to the United Kingdom and is making frantic efforts to achieve the objectives. Considering the developments, US President Donald Trump is reportedly said to have had a telephonic conversation with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Iran-US war, attack on Iran, Adel Al-Jubeir, Foreign Minister, military action, London, ChinaThe situation in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East has become explosive since Iran shot down a US drone. At a time, when the United States could attack Iran at any moment, US adversaries China and Russia have registered a reaction supporting Iran by asking the United States to exhibit restraint in the matter. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that if the United States attacked Iran, the situation thereafter would not remain under anyone’s control. In addition, China has claimed that US confrontation with Iran would open a Pandora’s Box in the Middle East. The stance of both Russia and China gives strong backing to Iran and the two countries have adopted a pro-Iran stand, even in the past.

At the same time, the European countries such as the United Kingdom (UK), France and Germany have asked Iran to be patient and have started desperate efforts to prevent the situation from escalating further. The British Foreign Secretary is travelling to Iran on Sunday and would be taking special efforts to convince Iran to slightly soften its stand and avert an impending conflict. Amid reports of the British minister’s visit, the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince is also said to be using his influence to try and get the UK to change its stand on Iran. Saudi Foreign Minister Jubeir is currently on a visit to the UK and has justified the military action against Iran. “Iran has greatly destabilised the region by attacking the oil tankers. Therefore, it is imperative to take military action against the state as they will not improve otherwise,” asserts Saudi. Also, to achieve it, the British media have reported that Jubeir was lobbying in the UK.

Meanwhile, White House Spokesperson informed that the US President Donald Trump had a telephonic discussion with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Spokesman stated that both the leaders discussed the threat from Iran, the stability in the Middle East and the surge in oil prices. The oil rates spurted by nearly 6% after Iran downed the US drone while experts have expressed concerns over the prices exploding to new highs soon. In such a scenario, the brunt of the dreadful consequences would have to be borne by the economies of nearly all the countries in the world. The discussion between the US President and the Saudi Crown Prince on the oil rates, therefore, assumes much significance.
