European Union supports Britain in Russian spy poisoning case, recalls ambassador from Russia

Third World WarBrussels/ Moscow : The European Union has backed Britain in blaming Russia for the poisoning of a former spy, Sergei Skripal, in Britain. In a meeting held in Brussels on Thursday, the European Union while announcing its support for Britain, decided to recall its ambassador from Russia. At the same time, European countries have hinted at an expulsion of Russian diplomats from Britain. Russia has expressed strong displeasure over the decision taken by the European Union and have accused European nations of getting dragged into the anti-Russia campaign of the United States and Britain.

In a meeting held in Brussels on Thursday, the European Union unanimously backed Britain in the Russian spy poisoning case. The British Government has claimed that Russia might be responsible for this incident and the European Union has accepted this claim. The European Union has said that this incident in Britain is a challenge to European security and warned that it stands firmly with Britain in this case. The European Union also noted in the meeting that it will continuously keep tabs on this case and its consequences.

The European nations, while backing Britain, have decided to widened the scale of the political war against Russia. The Union also provided information about the decision to recall its ambassador from Russia. Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats in the last week. The member nations of the European Union have signalled their intent to follow Britain’s footsteps and expel Russian diplomats. Therefore, the political war between Russia and Europe looks set to worsen in the near future.

Russia has reacted strongly to the decision taken by the European Union. Russian Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov while expressing displeasure over the actions of European nations said that the decision taken by the European Union is unfortunate and reiterated that Russia played no role in Skripal case. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia also released a statement on this issue and claimed that the European nations are getting dragged into the anti-Russia campaign of the United States and Britain because of decision made by the European Union.
