North Korea closed the office after the ties between the two Koreas strained in the last year. Nevertheless, the North Korean regime indicated it was ready to make a decisive move when it blew up the liaison office on Tuesday afternoon. Kim Yo-jong, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s sister, had also threatened to blow up the liaison office last week.

Korean People’s Army chief warned that Korea was ready to send its army to the Demilitarized Zone, a secure area between the two Koreas. ‘We are ready to implement the decisions and instructions of the North Korean government thoroughly. We will turn the front line of the Demilitarized Zone into a fortress and heighten military vigilance,’ North Korean army warned.

South Korea has called for an emergency meeting after North Korea blew apart the liaison office and its military issued a threat. Earlier, the South Korean Army had threatened the North to stop its instigating activities. Dictator Kim Jong-un had disappeared for a while in April. Media reports stated Kim was infected with the Coronavirus and underwent surgery. After he began to appear in public once again, his sister Kim Yo-jong has regularly surfaced in discussions. Analysts claim the reason behind the events linked to Kim Yo-jong may be an indication of a change in power.

Kim Yo-jong is currently considered the second-most-influential person in North Korea. After becoming the vice director of the ruling Workers’ Party (WPK), Kim Yo-jong has become the face of North Korea after Kim Jong-un. Furthermore, media reports said Kim Yo-jong was handling the administration during Kim Jong-un’s absence. Moreover, the events following her threat of military action have caught the attention of the entire globe.
