Beijing/Canberra: The statements and actions by Australia are irresponsible and inciting, warned the Chinese military. China also accused that Australia’s stance regarding the threat of a China-Taiwan war is extreme. It is the third time in the last two months that China has threatened Australia over Taiwan. While China warns Australia, news surfaced that Australia has decided to reconsider the Darwin Port deal with the Chinese company.
Over the last year, the Chinese communist regime has become more aggressive. It is taking swift steps to execute its expansionist policy. Also, capturing Taiwan is the next step of this plan. The Chinese communist party leaders and army officials have shown clear indications of being set with the plan to attack Taiwan. Besides, the frequent Chinese intrusions into the Taiwanese territory after the change of US administration make its intentions evident. Its effects can be seen in the Australian political and military circles, with leaders warning of an increased possibility of a China-Taiwan war.
Last month, Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton warned that the chance of a China-Taiwan conflict could not be denied. Besides, Australian Secretary of Home Affairs Michael Pezzullo said the free nations could hear the drums of war beating close by as he warned of a possible China-Taiwan war. Moreover, some Australian officials and leaders expressed their stance, saying Australia should assist the US Army if a conflict sparks in Taiwan. Last month, while strengthening military cooperation with the United States, Australia had increased its naval movements in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Chinese military has reacted aggressively to this series of events. ‘We express strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the recent provocative actions on Taiwan-related issues by Australia. The Australian side has taken a series of provocative actions. Some people have even incited confrontation and exaggerated the threat of war on Taiwan-related issues,’ warned Chinese military spokesperson Tan Kefei. Furthermore, he also alleged that such statements are incredibly irresponsible.
The effects of aggressive Chinese military movements over the Taiwan issue are visible on an international level. Taiwan is receiving massive support in this regard. At the same time, the European nations have also adopted an aggressive stance over the Taiwan issue, following the United States, Australia and Japan. This support has upset China and is thereby threatening and warning these countries to pressurise them.
Only last month, while threatening Australia, China demanded its compliance with the Chinese policy over Taiwan if it wanted to cease the China-Australia trade war. Also, the Chinese government mouthpiece The Global Times had warned that China would launch missiles on its vital military bases if Australia assists the US Army.
Meanwhile, even as China continues to threaten it, Australia has indicated to stay firm on its policies. Australian authorities decided to rethink the lease deal signed with China’s Landbridge Group for the Darwin Port.
A deal was signed for it in 2015. However, there is a US-Australia joint defence base near this port. So, this deal was caught in controversy. Also, US leadership had expressed strong disapproval over the agreement. Against this background, the decision to reconsider this deal would likely escalate the China-Australia tensions furthermore.
