US denies weapons to Taiwan even as China ups war preparation

Taipei – China is considering how to protect its assets abroad if it launches an attack on Taiwan, similar to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. For this, China had organised its domestic and foreign banks meeting. Thus, while China was preparing to invade Taiwan, the United States refused to supply Taiwan with Howitzers and defence equipment on time. The refusal of the US at the eleventh hour to do so would affect Taiwan’s defence preparedness, and this would prove convenient for China.

The United States had announced its decision to supply about $7.5 million worth of weapons to Taiwan. These included 40 ‘155mm’ M109A6 Howitzer cannon guns. These cannon guns would have augmented Taiwan’s firepower. By announcing this last year, the United States had made China aware that it was committed to Taiwan’s security. But while the threat of Chinese aggression mounts, US companies have reported to Taiwan that they currently will not be able to meet the demands.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, all the focus of the US and NATO has coned down to the conflict in Ukraine. This gives China an excellent opportunity to invade Taiwan. International analysts have warned that China has potently prepared to grab this opportunity. Chinese fighter jets are anticipating Taiwan’s war preparedness by repeatedly infiltrating Taiwan’s limits. In the face of this, the US is killing time by giving only verbal assurances to Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry announced that their country would consider other options for these weapons in that case. Taiwan has not released the details. But the country will have to make moves to get these guns as soon as possible. While the possibility of a Chinese attack has increased, Taiwan made aware that its country was not Ukraine and that China was not Russia. At the same time, Japan has warned that China’s attack on Taiwan would be considered an attack on its own country. Therefore, attacking Taiwan and seizing Taiwan has not been that much easy for China. However, the fact that the United States, led by President Biden, is neglecting Taiwan’s defence is a significant stimulus to China. On account of this, China may decide to engulf Taiwan.
