Russia will give apt response to US deployment of nuclear weapons in Europe

Moscow: If the US increases nuclear weapons deployment at European military bases, Russia will give an apt response to it, President Putin’s spokesperson warned. At this time, Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also reassured that Russia would not allow Belarus to be isolated. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is visiting Russia. Therefore, the statements made by Peskov regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons assume much significance.

nuclear weaponsAfter the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, senior Russian leaders, including President Putin, repeatedly mentioned Russia’s nuclear preparedness. Putin had openly warned those planning schemes to defeat Russia to be mindful that Russia is a nuclear country. And some Russian leaders and military officers had insistently demanded Russia use ‘tactical nuclear weapons’ in Ukraine. Russia had conducted tests of both advanced nuclear weapons during the conflict with Ukraine. The Russian President had even ordered Russian ‘Nuclear Forces’ to remain alert.

The US and NATO said there was no change in Russia’s ‘Nuclear Posture’ despite Russia’s aggressive stance. However, the US has initiated steps to change nuclear weapons deployment in Europe with the help of NATO at the same time and also to deploy new nuclear weapons and atomic bombs. European countries are being provided fighter planes capable of firing nuclear weapons and other systems. Testing is going on for the deployment of nuclear weapons in Eastern European countries, including Finland, which has just joined the NATO alliance.

Russia has taken serious note of US and NATO activities. Russia has given impetus to increasing defence cooperation with neighbouring Belarus. When the conflict with Ukraine started, President Putin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and senior officials visited Belarus. An agreement was also signed regarding increasing defence cooperation between the two countries. The agreement also had a provision for deploying missiles, air defence systems, and Russian security forces. According to the agreement, Russia has deployed about 10,000 soldiers in Belarus. At the same time, the ‘S-400 air defence system’ and Iskander missiles were also deployed in Belarus.

After that, Russia will deploy its ‘Tactical Nuclear Weapons’ in Belarus in the next few months, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced recently. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has arrived in Russia to discuss the issue of Russian nuclear deployment. Along with deploying nuclear weapons, the point of providing Belarus ‘security guarantee’ is said to have been discussed.

Meanwhile, certain plans of the US and NATO regarding the counter-offensive in Ukraine have been published on social media. US Defence Department has taken serious cognisance of the matter and ordered an investigation. Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh acknowledged it and said the Defence Department is working on it.
