100 killed in Sudan civil war; 3 UN officials killed

Khartoum: 100 people died in the conflict that was sparked between two Sundanese army chiefs for power. The number of injured is said to be in the thousands. Three UN employees working in Sudan have been killed in the battle between the Army and the paramilitary forces for the third day consecutively. It is claimed that the longer the conflict continues, the more will be number of victims in Sudan. However, there is no possibility of the conflict between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary forces stopping, but it seems that the attacks are also being launched on hospitals.

Sudan civil warThe battle sparked between the Sudanese Army and Paramilitary forces that started on Saturday intensified on Monday. For the first two days, the soldiers of both groups opened fire and launched bombs to capture government and military places. Aerial attacks were rarely carried out. But on Monday, airstrikes were intensified by the Army with planes and the paramilitary forces with helicopters in their areas of influence. The capital Khartoum has become the centre of most attacks.

The medical officers in Khartoum are complaining that attacks are being launched on the hospitals here. Fierce attacks have been launched on Al-Shabaa Hospital, and it is being criticised that the patients and doctors are also not safe. Simultaneously, it is also coming to the fore that the necessary supply of medicines for medical care is not being carried out. The Army had proposed stopping the fighting for a few hours and sending humanitarian aid. Nevertheless, Paramilitary forces closed the path of humanitarian assistance by launching attacks. At the same time, the conflict has caused the water system of some cities in Sudan to come to a standstill.

Both factions claim that they have the lead in the struggle that started three days ago. The Army has said that they have regained control over the radio channel as well as other places which the paramilitary forces had taken over. Also, a big announcement was made by Army chief General Burhan that the paramilitary forces under the leadership of General Dagalo had been dismissed. Sudan’s Paramilitary forces have about 300,000 soldiers. This group has been handed over the management of the capital, Khartoum and other major cities.

In such a situation, the coup launched by paramilitary forces is claimed to have delivered a major blow to the Sudanese Army. Army chief General Burhan expressed his readiness to hold discussions with paramilitary forces after three days of fighting. However, General Dagalo is not ready for talks. Also, General Dagalo rejected the ceasefire proposal given by the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Sudan is an oil-rich OPEC Plus member country. Along with oil, there are large deposits of metals such as gold, iron, chromite, zinc, aluminum and nickel in Sudan. The paramilitary forces are said to be trying to get a hold of these. Analysts have warned that if the conflict in Sudan is not ended soon, a civil war will flare up in the country.
