Riyadh: Saudi King Salman has called on the international community to unite as he said, ‘The threat from Iran, which runs a missile and nuclear program as also incites terrorism, is rising. The international community must take a bold stand against Iran.’ After reports of Donald Trump’s defeat in the presidential elections, Iran’s confidence has doubled, and it threatened the Arab nations. Thereafter, Saudi King Salman made the appeal to the international community. Meanwhile, a special meeting convened between Saudi Deputy Defence Minister and US Special envoy for Iran on Wednesday.
It was King Salman’s second attempt in the past three months to raise caution against the dangers Iran posed to the world. Earlier, in September, King Salman had accused Iran of creating an ethnic divide among Gulf nations at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). At the same time, he also claimed that Iran was waging proxy wars in the Middle East with the help of its regional armed militia. King Salman blamed Iran for tensions in the Middle East as well on Tuesday. However, Iran has rebuffed all claims of the Saudi King, calling them baseless.
Meanwhile, the happenings in the Middle East have gained momentum. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced the US would be imposing new sanctions against Iran. Pompeo warned that ‘Iran will be cornered at every front.’ US Special Representative for Iran, Elliott Abrams met the Saudi Deputy Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman. The ministers discussed on stability in the Middle East and strengthening security. Saudi Defence Advisor and senior military official Major General Abdullah Al-Otaibi and Saudi Ambassador to Yemen were also present during the talks. .The meeting between the minsters of the US and Saudi assumes much significance.
