Washington: US President Donald Trump justified the US military withdrawal from Syria with the announcement that ”This is the right time to withdraw from the long-drawn Syrian war. Henceforth, the US soldiers will not participate in Syria’s war.” However, the Kurdish forces have criticised the United States, saying they had betrayed the Kurds with the move.

The White House announced the US military withdrawal from Syria on Sunday night. The US decision has left many in disbelief. In a tweet early on Monday, President Trump stated the reasons behind the decision as also criticised the previous US administrations and European nations. ”The United States had sent the army to Syria for thirty days. However, the US soldiers are fighting the Syrian war for the past several years without any definite objective,” President Trump lambasted.

“The ISIS terrorists had wreaked havoc in Syria when I took over as the President. Nevertheless, it was my administration that has completely defeated the ISIS caliphate, 100%,” President Trump claimed. Furthermore, Trump reprimanded the European countries saying that ”The United States has captured thousands of ISIS terrorists while conducting operations in Syria. Most of the terrorists had come to Syria from Europe. I had even proposed to the European countries to take charge of these terrorists. But, the European countries expect the United States to detain the terrorists and bear their cost. The United States is already bearing the losses in trade with NATO and European countries, and will not bear the burden of additional expenses anymore.’

President Trump said, ”The Kurds have fought the war on terror alongside the US. In return, the United States has provided a significant amount of financial, as well as military aid to the Kurds,” indicating the United States was not responsible for the security of the Kurds. Furthermore, President Trump clearly stated his intentions, saying that ‘We will fight where it is to our benefit, and only fight to win’.

President Trump issued a warning saying that ”Now, Turkey, Europe, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Russia can take the required position in the Syrian war. The United States will not pay attention to it anymore. However, if at any given time the terrorists pose a threat to the United States security, we will enter the war no matter the location and annihilate the terrorists even before they can act against the us”.

Meanwhile, the Kurds in Syria have criticised the US President saying that he had betrayed them by making the decision to withdraw from Syria. Moreover, some of the people’s representatives from the United States have also opposed Trump’s decision reminding him that the Kurds had supported the United States in the war against the ISIS.
