Washington: US President Donald Trump announced the ‘Deal of the Century’ stating that it was the last opportunity for resolving the Israel-Palestine issue. According to the deal, an undivided Jerusalem would become the capital of Israel. President Trump proposed that a part of East Jerusalem could host the capital of Palestine, which would have more than double the current land area occupied by Palestinians.

Trump asserted that the Palestinian people could visit their place of worship in east Jerusalem at any time, guaranteeing Israel was committed to the term. The proposal calls for suspension of Israel’s work for building Jewish settlements in the Palestinian areas for four years. President Trump declared that the US would invest $50 billion in Palestine if the Palestinians give up resorting to terrorism. Palestine would therefore not have to depend on any charities and donations after that, Trump added.

President Trump affirmed that the deal was the ‘opportunity of the century’ stressing it was the last deal to resolve the Israel-Palestine issue. As neither Israel nor Palestine would have to give up its land, the plan is a win-win situation for both, Trump said. Furthermore, the US President commended Israel, calling its effort a significant step for peace with Palestine. He made special mention of Prime Minister Netanyahu saying he had demonstrated extra-ordinary generosity towards Palestine.

The United States has already recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Israel’s right over Jerusalem is therefore not negotiable, Trump clarified. Trump had snubbed the opposition from across the globe and taken the decision. But now, Trump has made the offer stating that he wanted to do something for the Palestinians.
