Pyongyang/Seoul: North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has announced severing all communications with South Korea. The North Korean state-run media alleged that South Korea had failed to stop activities from certain groups in the country targeting North Korea and thus had decided to put an end to all communications with South Korea. Only last week, reports had surfaced of Kim Yo Jong, sister of Kim Jong-un, threatening South Korea.
Two years ago, US President Donald Trump had made a historic visit to North Korea and met dictator Kim Jong-un. On the sidelines of the tour, a liaison office was set up to rebuild ties between the North and South Korea. The South Korean, President Moon Jae-in had taken the initiative to mend relations between the two Koreas as well.
Despite that, the nuclear talks between the US and North Korea had ended in failure last year. After that, North Korea had begun threatening the US and South Korea once again. North Korea had even carried out successive nuclear tests. Last month, a military conflict had sparked at the borders shared by the North and South Korea. However, the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, has revealed his aggressive intentions by severing all communications with the South.
While cutting communications, North Korea had put forth the reason as propaganda against Dictator Kim Jong-un from certain activist groups in South Korea. Activist groups from South Korea regularly release balloons into North Korea with leaflets. The leaflets bear information critical of the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un and atrocities committed by the regime over the North Korean citizens. Many times, these balloons also carry food, electronic equipment and other items.
North Korea has alleged that the activities from South Korea have increased and that the country had failed to control them. That had made South Korea an adversary, and therefore all communications with them would be severed, North Korea announced. The North Korean state-run media KCNA reported a warning that stated, North Korea would not come together with South Korea for talks henceforth. Therefore, the chances of both nations reaching an agreement to resolve the problem seems unlikely. Moreover, some analysts believe that North Korea will try to escalate tensions in the region by performing nuclear tests soon.
