North Korea threatens South Korea with military action

Pyongyang/Seoul: Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, has threatened South Korea with military action. Last week, North Korea severed all communications with South Korea. The country criticised that the reason for the decision was the balloons with propaganda messages against North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un that were being released across the border to North Korea. Also, the South Korean government had failed at stopping the activists behind it. North Korea has threatened the South over the matter once again. In response, South Korea called for an emergency meeting. However, analysts believe that the balloons were a mere excuse and the threats were a tactic to attract US attention.

उत्तर कोरिया, दक्षिण कोरिया, लष्करी कारवाईLast week, North Korea cut off all communications with South Korea and warned of a shift to an aggressive stance. After that, the North Korean dictator’s sister has threatened to initiate military action against the South, intensifying tensions in the Korean peninsula. The warning is Kim Yo-jong’s second to South Korea in the last week. ‘South Korea is now an adversary nation, and I have instructed the North Korean defence chief to determine the next course of action against them,’ Kim Yo-jong said.

Kim Yo-jong is currently considered the second-most influential leader in North Korea. She was appointed as the deputy director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers Party of Korea (WPK) and after her brother, has become the new face of North Korea. Last month, Kim Yo-jong was revealed to have been handling the administration of Kim Jong-un, in his absence. Kim Yo-jong’s threat, therefore, has drawn the attention of the entire globe.

North Korea has used the alleged propaganda leaflets, being sent across the border from South Korea with balloons, as a cover. Two years ago, North Korea had initiated nuclear talks with the US. The leaders of the two nations, Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump even met each other, but the talks fell apart later. North Korea’s objective behind the nuclear negotiations, was to receive relief from US sanctions. Nevertheless, the country did not achieve much success in that regard.

As of now, the economic state of North Korea is fragile. The country had to close all borders with China due to the Coronavirus crisis. Analysts have underscored that North Korea carried out its entire trade only with China. Besides, even though North Korea has claimed of not having any Corona infections in the state, analysts do not trust the statement. Given the conditions, North Korea seeks relief on US sanctions. In addition, analysts believe the North Korean dictator was displeased and is targeting South Korea to reinitiate talks with the US.

Moreover, some analysts claim North Korea was intensifying the tensions with South Korea as a diversionary tactic for turning the attention of its citizens elsewhere from the current state of the nation.
