US hints at introducing new bill against China to prevent Taiwanese invasion

Washington: The US has indicated taking a significant step at a time when the Chinese intrusions into and threats against Taiwan are rising. Ted Yoho, a senior member of the US Congress, has hinted at introducing bill that authorises the US to take military action against an invasion on Taiwan. The bill is called the Taiwan Invasion Prevention Act, and the US President will be given the authority to initiate military action in such an event. Previously, the US had introduced a law and an agreement for use of military action over a possible attack against Japan and South Korea.

After that, Taiwan will also receive super-advanced missiles, torpedoes and advanced defence systems. The US has even stepped up deployment in marine regions near Taiwanese waters as also the presence of its aircraft carriers, destroyers, drones, patrol planes and fighters in the area.

China appears extremely nervous over the bolstering US-Taiwan cooperation. The country has intensified its threats of Taiwanese invasion. In a meeting of the Chinese Communist Party held in May, Li Zhanshu, the third-most-senior leader of China’s ruling Communist Party, had proposed to launch a direct attack on TaiwanOn the other hand, a former military official had stated that the country had the rare opportunity to attack Taiwan at a time when the rest of the world was occupied in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic.

Now, renowned Chinese analyst Li Su has warned that the Hong Kong national security law was only a test case. Also, Li warned that China would similarly attack Taiwan without paying heed to anyone based on the same grounds as Hong Kong. Li went on to indicate China would initiate military action on Taiwan at the start of next year. Considering the threats, the statements of the US senators on the Taiwanese law assume much significance.

Few months ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping had threatened to spill blood over Taiwan and warned of a forceful reunification of the region. Nevertheless, China forgot to take Taiwan’s permission for it. Taiwan was never a part of the People’s Republic of China and neither do the Taiwanese people wish to be a part of it,’ said Ted Yoho as he justified the new law tabled in the US Congress. Furthermore, Yoho claimed that the law would demonstrate the US commitment towards Taiwan

Taiwan has welcomed the new bill introduced in the US Congress. ‘In the past few years, many good decisions were made on Taiwanese cooperation in the US Congress. We will constantly remain in contact with the US Congress and leaders with regard to this bill, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese Interior Minister has rejected the ‘One China Principle’ and warned that with regard to its sovereignty, the government would not make any compromise.
