Jerusalem: Allegations of fraud in US elections are intensifying and exit polls are in favour of Joe Biden. A severe reaction is emerging from Israel over the US exit polls. Senior Israeli minister has issued a warning over the likely scenario where Joe Biden is elected as the next US President. The minister said if Biden reinstates the Iran nuclear deal after assuming office, a conflict will ignite between Iran and Israel. A few days ago, Iran had stated that Donald Trump’s defeat in the elections was necessary.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s stand over Iran has caused discontent in Israel. Biden opposed the sanctions imposed on Iran as he announced that only a new nuclear agreement could help put a stop to the Iranian nuclear programme. Besides, Biden has not shown much interest over the cooperation between Israel and the Arab nations in the past as well. Previously, Biden had even criticised President Benjamin Netanyahu, who has taken a stern stand against Iran. Therefore, Israeli leaders have started to react after the exit polls displayed results in favour of Joe Biden.
Biden announced that he would re-establish a nuclear agreement with Iran if he becomes president. Senior Israeli leader Tzachi Hanegbi has warned that in such a scenario, a fierce battle would break out between Iran and Israel. Hanegbi went on to state that Israel does not agree with Biden’s stand over Iran. Also, President Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders consider the 2015 Iran nuclear deal as the biggest mistake by the US, Hanegbi reminded. Moreover, he warned Biden not to repeat the mistake of former US President Barack Obama.
Hanegbi had welcomed US President Donald Trump’s stand on Iran. The Israeli minister had drawn focus over the fact that while Mr Trump had announced proposing a new deal to Iran, he had made clear the sanctions over Tehran would not be lifted. Moreover, the Iran nuclear deal formulated by Obama which Biden is showing support for, cannot stop Iran from going nuclear, criticised Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman Hauser. Hauser raised alarm and said that if Iran became nuclear-capable, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt would step into the arms race for creating nuclear weapons.
In the meanwhile, Israel and even the Arab nations had welcomed the sanctions President Trump had imposed in the past five years when US pulled out from the nuclear deal. The US sanctions are believed to have cornered Iran. On the other hand, Iran had indirectly endorsed Biden’s election as the next president a few days ago when he said that Donald Trump’s re-election would not be appropriate for the citizens of the United States.
