Washington: Last week, it was revealed that China, which has been creating tensions in the Indo-Pacific region with its military aggression, had set up 119 silos to deploy nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles. The US State Department severely criticised China’s nuclear move, calling it worrying, and cast doubt on the Communist Party’s intentions. A reaction has emerged from the Chinese communist regime. “If a military conflict erupts over the Taiwan issue, these nuclear weapons will help deter the United States. Therefore, no matter how hard the United States strikes, China should not give up its nuclear arsenal,” said a Chinese government mouthpiece.
Last week, China reportedly set up 119 silos to deploy nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles in the Yumen city of Gansu province. The think tank James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in the United States has released its satellite photographs. The think tank said it included DF-41 missiles capable of hitting the United States. A leading US daily had criticised China, saying it was trying to intimidate its opponents by deploying the intercontinental ballistic missiles. Chinese President Xi Jinping threatened his opponents while speaking at a Communist Party event in the next few hours.
The US State Department has expressed concern over China’s deployment of the missiles and threats. ‘China’s increased movement of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles is very worrying and casts doubt on China’s intentions. The importance of taking the necessary measures to reduce this nuclear threat has increased,” the US State Department warned. At the same time, the nuclear capabilities of China are growing much faster and extensively than presumed, Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, said.
A few days ago, the study group SIPRI had stated that China had 350 nuclear weapons in a report. However, China, infamous for its non-transparency, is claimed to have far more nuclear weapons than that. Against this background, US State Department Spokesperson Price raised the issue of limiting China’s nuclear arsenal, just like Russia. Further, Price also said the United States had taken the threats made by Chinese President Xi Jinping to his opponents seriously.
The Chinese government mouthpiece reacted to the US stand. The Chinese government mouthpiece has accused the United States and Western nations of targeting China’s nuclear arsenal since the beginning of the year. The mouthpiece said that the United States and its allies are indeed trying to influence China’s nuclear capability but fail. It criticised that keeping China under its control is a strategic ambition of the US, but US restrictions do not bind China’s nuclear arsenal.” At the same time, the Chinese mouthpiece has also warned that China will not limit its nuclear arsenal in the face of pressure from the United States and the West.
Moreover, the Chinese government mouthpiece has suggested to the regime that ‘If the conflict over Taiwan erupts, these nuclear weapons will stop the United States. Therefore, no matter how hard the United States strikes, China should not give up its nuclear weapons.’ It went on to say that China should develop a second-strike capability against the United States and stockpile enough nuclear weapons.
