Cyberattacks may provoke a real shooting war between US & its adversaries

Washington/Moscow/Beijing: US President Joe Biden has warned that a major cyberattack on the United States could lead to an actual shooting war against the enemy. In the past few days, the United States has targeted both China and Russia over cyberattacks. Therefore, Biden is believed to have issued a warning of war to China and Russia.

सायबर हमलोंLast week, the United States blamed China for the attack on the Microsoft Exchange servers. At the time, President Biden accused China of being worse and more dangerous than Russia in terms of cyberattacks, saying Beijing was providing refuge and necessary facilities to hackers. US agencies then revealed that Chinese hackers were also responsible for cyberattacks over the past decade.

Before making allegations against China, the United States also targeted Russia. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva last month, Biden warned Russia of a brutal response if it attempted to carry out cyberattacks on critical sectors. A few days ago, the United States warned Russia of consequences if it does not take action against the Ransomware cyberattacks on Washington.

Against this backdrop, Biden’s reference to a ‘real shooting war’ in his speech at the US intelligence headquarters on Tuesday was striking. ‘If the United States is caught in a real war with a major country in the future, it could be a result of cyberattacks. If a cyberattack is launched on the United States with tremendous repercussions, it could turn into a real war,’ Biden said.

The US agencies had blamed Russia for last year’s SolarWinds cyberattack on the United States. President Biden had also issued instructions to draw up a particular plan to respond to Russia on the matter. Besides, Russia was warned that US agencies would launch cyberattacks on it. However, the United States has since been hit by a series of Ransomware attacks, where billions of dollars were demanded. Along with Russia, China was also revealed to have carried out massive cyberattacks on US systems and companies.

Earlier, reports revealed that the US agencies had developed ‘cyber weapons’ to respond to cyberattacks. Nevertheless, the US policy has become more aggressive, and Biden’s warning of a real war over cyberattacks is a sign of that.
