Multipolar world order would take shape after Russia-Ukraine conflict

Budapest – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warned that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would end the hegemony of the West and a new multipolar world order would take shape. Prime Minister Orbán also alleged that sanctions imposed against Russia failed to prevent the conflict. He has also advised that the West should implement a new policy now. A few days ago, he made a scathing remark that Europe had shot its lungs by imposing sanctions on Russia.

Moreover, significant developments have happened at the international level after Russia invaded Ukraine in February. This conflict has created extreme tension in the relations of the US and Europe with Russia. The US, including Europe and other western countries, has been trying hard to end Russia’s global influence, and severe sanctions have been imposed. However, despite these sanctions, the West has not been very successful in stopping Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and giving a big blow to its influence. On the contrary, it has emerged that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has flared up due to wrong decisions by the West.

Against this background, in the last few days, some Western leaders, diplomats and analysts have made aware that the dominance of the West in the world system ended. It includes Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and former British ex-PM Tony Blair. The PM of Hungary has also drawn attention to this again from his statement.

The Hungarian Prime Minister warned that the world was not on their side on the Russia-Ukraine conflict issue, and an effort to show that has also not been made. He said that this conflict could easily end the hegemony of the West. This would shape a new multi-pillar global system, warned the PM of Hungary. Orban said that a new strategy is needed, which should focus on peace talks and drafting a good peace proposal… instead of winning the conflict. At this time, he criticised the European Union and also alleged the policy of sanctions against Russia was a total failure.

Just last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the old world order would not be re-established. Besides, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had admitted that a new multi-pillar world had shaped up due to the shock of the Ukraine attack, and the end of the phase of globalisation had begun.
