Terrorist groups have become increasingly active after Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan

Tel Aviv/Sana/Kabul: A few days ago, the United Nations (UN) warned that the Taliban had maintained their association with Al Qaeda and other terrorist organisations. However, even as it engaged in negotiations with the Taliban, the Biden administration had ignored this. Now, terrorist organisations around the world are openly supporting the Taliban as it moves to establish its rule in Afghanistan. Moreover, the militant groups have begun threatening to use the Taliban’s Afghanistan model in other countries. Al Qaeda-linked terrorist organisations in Yemen and Syria have made announcements to that effect.

Terrorist groupsTerrorist groups around the world are praising the Taliban for evicting the Ghani government and the US forces from Afghanistan. Also, the Al Qaeda-linked terrorist organisations are leading in it. These include Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria, the Turkistan Islamic Movement, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

‘The Taliban’s victory and empowerment reveal to us that jihad and fighting represent the (Islamic law)-based, legal, and realistic way to restore rights (and) expel the invaders and occupiers,’ Al Qaeda-backed group in Yemen said. The organisation has warned to use in Yemen, the strategy inspired by the Taliban’s struggle. On the other hand, Al Qaeda-linked Hayat in Syria claims that the Taliban is an inspiration for the next conflict.

‘No matter how long it takes, we will be victorious in the war against the occupiers,’ said Hayat, warning to continue the fight against the Assad regime in Syria. Furthermore, Israeli and US analysts have warned that there has been a significant rise in Hayat’s activity in Syria since the Taliban increased its military movements in Afghanistan. After its victory in Afghanistan, Hamas, the Turkistan Islamic Movement, and the Tehreek-e-Taliban have also praised the Taliban.

Terrorist groupsHamas has released photographs of a meeting in Qatar between Mullah Baradar, the Taliban’s second-in-command, and Ismail Haniyeh, a Hamas leader. The militant outfit said Baradar and Haniyeh had met in May during the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas. A few days ago, the Israeli media had warned that the growing closeness of the terrorist organisation in Gaza with the Taliban was dangerous for Israel.

Meanwhile, US intelligence has raised the alarm, saying if the Taliban wins the war in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda will re-emerge and launch 9/11-style terrorist attacks on the United States again. Nevertheless, the Biden administration appears to have ignored the reports which carry information on it. After the Taliban’s victory, the significance of the warning issued by the US intelligence has grown even more in the wake of the threats and rising activity of Al Qaeda-linked terrorist groups in Yemen, Syria and the Gaza Strip.
