US to provide additional defense assistance to Eastern European countries due to Russian threat

Washington / Moscow – The United States promised to provide additional defense assistance to NATO member countries in Eastern Europe due to Russia’s growing military moves and aggression. Lithuanian advisor claimed that the US President Biden and former European leaders held meeting in this regard on Thursday. US President Joe Biden has pledged to provide incremental arms assistance to Ukraine alongside Eastern European countries. Russia had already expressed resentment over US and NATO moves in Eastern Europe and Ukraine. Besides, he also warned that Ukraine was the red line.  

Moreover, the news is being published that Russia has deployed more than a million troops along Ukraine’s border. Along with the news, satellite photographs of the Russian deployment were released. This has created an atmosphere of concern in the US and European countries. The US accompanying NATO has repeatedly warned Russia and made it aware of the dire consequences. However, even after that, Russia has shown no signs of withdrawal of any kind. Hence, now the US and NATO have begun to take quick steps to accelerate their military capabilities in Europe.  

As part of that, US President Joe Biden held talks with leaders of Ukraine and Eastern European countries on Thursday. The NATO member states of Eastern Europe have an independent group, Bucharest Nine (B9). The group includes Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria. The US President held talks with the leaders for about half an hour. President Biden promised to provide additional assistance to enhance the military capabilities of Eastern European countries during the talks. This was stated by Lithuania’s Foreign Policy Advisor Asta Skaisgirytė. 

During the presidency of Donald Trump, the US signalled building a military base in Poland. At the same time, a missile defense system is being deployed in Romania, and movements are underway for deploying troops and tanks in Lithuania and Estonia. Along with Eastern European countries, preparations are underway to provide additional arms assistance to Ukraine. President Biden has discussed this with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. At the same time, President Biden has indicated that the US will be more active at a diplomatic level to ease the tensions between Russia and Ukraine, said the White House.  

The White House says President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have discussed a proposal on diplomatic negotiations to reduce these tensions. 

Pressuring Russia will not solve Ukraine’s problems: French President Macron  

Paris – France’s President Emmanuel Macron has said that putting pressure on Russia will not solve Ukraine’s problems. At the same time, the French President made aware that although US efforts to resolve the Ukraine problem, it would not break the framework already laid by Europe. Macron also said he would discuss the Ukraine issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week.  

France will take over the presidency of the European Union next month.  Following that, France aims to strengthen Europe militarily and economically for the next six months. President Macron has taken the initiative, and his statement on Ukraine seems to be part of it. The French President had earlier signalled that he would initiate to reduce tensions with Russia.
