Ukraine cannot become a member of NATO; President Zelensky realises after immense devastation

Kyiv – Ukraine’s President Zelensky has realised that Ukraine cannot be involved in NATO after the plight suffered by Ukraine in a 21-day fierce war. While the reality of NATO membership comes to the fore, the European Union has also announced that it would take a long time to recognise Ukraine as a member. This raises the question of exactly why the President of Ukraine pulled this war with Russia.

President Zelensky

New talks have started between Russia and Ukraine on a ceasefire. However, even as the talks continue, Russia has continued its gruesome attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russian attacks are demolishing buildings in Ukrainian cities, and civilian areas have also been severely damaged. Moreover, videos of Russian tanks and military vehicles being destroyed by Ukrainian military resistance in some places have been released. Despite that, military analysts claim that the Ukrainian military’s resistance is not organised.

President Zelensky claimed that NATO should assist Ukraine to at least defend itself because Russia will be targeting NATO after Ukraine. At the same time, it becomes clear from the statements of Zelensky that he has given up hopes of his country being a NATO member.

President Zelensky

Russia had demanded a guarantee from Ukraine and NATO that Ukraine should not endanger its security by getting involved in NATO. But it had been refused by Ukraine and NATO as well. But today, Ukraine is agreeing that it will not join NATO. Had it been agreed three weeks ago, maybe Russia’s attack on Ukraine could have been averted.

The 21-day conflict has killed 619 civilians and the number of injured has reached 1,143. Moreover, the information provided by the United Nations human rights body shows that the war has left more than 3.2 million Ukrainians homeless. Furthermore, the Ukrainian government says that the lives lost in this conflict are much more than multifold of this.

Moreover, Ukraine had adopted an aggressive stance against Russia, relying on assurances from the United States and NATO. At the time, Ukraine, the United States and NATO had taken an ideological stance that the Ukrainians would decide whether or not the NATO membership is accepted. But after the war broke out, the United States reminded that Ukraine was not yet a member of NATO and declared that it was not ready for Ukraine to go to war against Russia’s aggression.

Furthermore, due to such betrayal by the United States, Ukraine was left alone in the face of a mighty Russian invasion. Ukraine’s resistance to Russian forces appears to fall short. Further damage to Ukraine could only be averted; if talks between the two countries begin in the future and a ceasefire is reached. Otherwise, there is a terrible possibility coming to the fore that by the time Russia takes control over the whole of Ukraine, everything in this country will be ruined.
