Russia launches fresh attacks on Kharkiv

Moscow / Kyiv – Russia has turned its attention to Kharkiv after gaining control of Severodonetsk, a strategic city in the Donbas region. Ukrainian officials informed that new attacks had been launched on Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine. The Ukrainian officials warned that Kharkiv would soon be a new front in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Meanwhile, the western leaders have claimed that the Russia-Ukraine conflict could continue for many years. It emerged that NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the remarks in these regards.

Moreover, Russia has had good strategic success in the Ukraine conflict in the past few weeks. Russia has a good lead in the Donbas region of Ukraine, gaining almost complete control over the strategic city such as Severodonetsk. Ukrainian military unit has taken refuge in the Azot factory area on the city’s border. Except for this part, another part is entirely under the control of Russian forces. Russia has also launched fierce attacks on the towns of Lysychansk, Bakhmut and Sloviansk, following Severodonetsk.

Russia has now turned its attention to Kharkiv while it continues to forge ahead in Donbas. Russia had seized the city early in its campaign over Ukraine. However, it was forced to withdraw from the city after some time. Shortly afterwards, Russia halted attacks in the region. But now, followed by the success in Donbas, Russia has turned its attention back to Kharkiv. Since last week, Russia has launched cannons and rocket strikes in the Kharkiv region.

The Russian Defence Forces informed that some units of the Russian military forge ahead toward Kharkiv. There are indications that these moves are part of a new campaign to seize Kharkiv. Ukrainian officials have expressed concerns over this. Soon, Russia could turn Kharkiv into a frontline city of the conflict, Ukrainian officials feared. It is said that Russia’s attacks on Kharkiv would add to the crisis faced by Ukraine’s military, while shocks are being felt in Donbas and southern Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia informed of launching a calibre missile attack in the Dnipropetrovsk province in central Ukraine. A defence spokesman said a senior Ukrainian military official was killed along with foreign weapon stock.

There are indications that the Russia-Ukraine conflict will last for many years. ‘We need to be prepared for the long term… There is absolutely the possibility that this [conflict] will drag on and will last for months and years,’ said NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, also confirmed this. Prime Minister Johnson warned that Ukraine’s allies should be prepared for a long-drawn conflict.
