China has secretly built five Anti-Satellite Laser Bases across the country, claims a military observer

Washington: China is reportedly preparing to challenge the United States in the global arms race and has made vigorous preparations for space war. An army analyst has claimed that after taking military control over the Xinjiang province by abusing the minorities in the country, China has built a secret anti-satellite laser base in the region. Furthermore, China has made five laser bases like the one in Xinjiang, informed the analyst.

The laser base is situated at 145 kilometres from Xinjiang’s capital Urumqi in north-western China. The centres monitoring the satellites of China and other countries are spread across the country in various cities. A retired Indian Army official monitoring Chinese military activities claimed on a US website that China was planning to keep a watch on the satellites and target them at the right time. As per the military researcher, on identifying the orbital path and other relevant information on the satellites, the secret Chinese laser bases would then be able to destroy the enemy satellites.

The analyst has provided satellite imagery of the laser base to the media and expressed a possibility of four more of such stations being found elsewhere in China. The country tried to hide the base from the satellites of the United States and its allies by building sliding roofs over it. Although four buildings feature such sliding roofs, the base station was exposed as the roof on one of the buildings had slid open. The satellite imagery of the base was provided to the media and has received reactions from around the world.

In February, the intelligence agencies had warned, the satellites in space are under threat from the Chinese anti-satellite laser. However, the intelligence agency had claimed in its report that the Chinese system did not as yet have the capability to target the advanced satellites in space in high earth-orbit. The report also said that China would have to wait until next year to be equipped with a laser system capable of destroying low earth-orbit satellites.

Also, by this time, China would acquire the capability to use Energy Weapons to render satellites useless as also the technology to destroy the space assets of the enemy. Currently, China was focussing on the use of laser technology and also working on using the microwave and radio waves as weapons, the intelligence agency had cautioned. Therefore, China’s activities are being carefully and critically watched.

Previously, in 2006, China had claimed to have destroyed its defunct satellite, using an anti-satellite missile. The Chinese missile test was criticised from around the world. Nevertheless, some analysts from the United States had alleged that China had used a laser to destroy the satellite.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump established a Space Force underlining the importance of space. Taking into account China’s preparations for the laser bases, the significance of the US Space Force seems to have increased even more.
