IDF strikes Gaza sites; destroys Hamas chief Ismail Haniya’s office, intelligence headquarters

Jerusalem: The Israeli fighter jets avenged the rocket attack on Tel Aviv with a strong response targeting the Hamas and Islamic Jihad locations in the Gaza Strip. After the air strikes, at least 30 rockets were launched from the Gaza into nine Israeli cities also destroying the Israeli Iron Dome air defence system. After that, Israel once again carried out attacks on Gaza destroying the office of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya and the building which housed the headquarters of the Hamas intelligence services. Given the extended conflict between the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and Hamas, international media have voiced the possibility of a new war sparking off in Gaza.

For the last few months, tensions have risen on the Israel-Gaza border. A major conflict is believed likely between Israel and Hamas after the violent protests of Hamas supporters flared up at the Israel border. Early Monday, Hamas added fuel to the fire by launching a rocket attack over Israel’s financial capital Tel Aviv. Seven Israeli citizens were critically injured in the rocket attacks which include two children. Furthermore, Prime Minister Netanyahu, who cut short his visit to the United States warned that the attack would be avenged.

Since Monday evening, the IDF initiated attacks on terrorist locations in the Gaza Strip. The defence forces informed that the terrorist bases, training camps, arms warehouse as also other locations of both the terrorist groups, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad were destroyed. Moreover, Hamas is said to have suffered significant damage in the Israeli action. Therefore, infuriated by the strikes, Hamas initiated rocket attacks into Israel at 10 pm on Monday. The Hamas rockets even targeted Sderot, the Israeli city located in the north as well as towns situated 75 kilometres from the border.

One of the rockets penetrated the Israeli Iron Dome air defence system causing a commotion. Since midnight Monday, the IDF intensified its attacks on the Gaza Strip and razed 15 locations. Additionally, Israel has closed the Erez and Kerem Shalom border crossings, to prevent the terrorists from escaping. Considering the possibility of the tensions escalating along the Egyptian border, Israel has dispatched two military brigades for the southern border. At the same time, the IDF has initiated the process for calling the reserve soldiers on duty. Thus, Israel may infiltrate the Gaza Strip and declare war against Hamas, claim the US analysts and media.
