Turkey has sent mercenaries to Libya, alleges LNA rebel General Haftar’s spokesman

Beirut: Turkey has been in support of Fayez al-Sarraj’s government in Libya, and has sent its mercenaries and terrorists to Libya, accused the renegade General Khalifa Haftar’s forces. The rebels even alleged that Turkey was planning to carry out a genocide in Libya with the help of the mercenaries, and terrorists.

In an interview with a local news agency, Khaled al-Mahjoub, a Spokesman for the renegade Libyan National Army (LNA), accused Turkey of fuelling the civil war in Libya. Last week, a large number of mercenaries and terrorists from Turkey arrived in Libya on a passenger plane that landed at the Misrata airport in Libya. The terrorists were sent to Libya to assist the Sarraj government, the LNA spokesman, Mahjoub alleged.

For the past few weeks, Turkey was claimed to have been supporting extremist and terrorist groups in Libya along with the Sarraj government. Previously, Turkey had sent military aid for his government, which included suicide drones, anti-drone laser systems and other weaponry as well. Last month, with the help of troops supporting Sarraj, Turkey had fired a laser at an LNA drone. After that, the Libyan rebels had showered heavy criticism on Turkey and the Sarraj government.

In the past, Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) was claimed to have been closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt and Turkey. The extremist leader Liwa Al Sumud Salah Badi is also a supporter of the Sarraj government. Moreover, the LNA fighters have announced a reward of 5 million Libyan Dinars (or $3.6 mn) for killing Salah Badi.

General Haftar, who is fighting against the Libyan government, enjoys support from Russia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and a few other Arabic nations. Therefore, Turkey and the Arabic countries are pitched against each other in the Libyan civil war, thereby intensifying it further.
