Damascus: A few hours ago, Iran had threatened Israel not to cross the ‘red lines’ in Syria. However, snubbing Iran’s threat, Israel attacked another military base in Syria. The attack is claimed to have killed nine Iran-affiliated terrorists. In addition, Israel has begun an air exercise near the Syria-Lebanon border. 

Only a few hours ago, Iran’s Foreign Ministry threatened that ‘Iran will retaliate forcefully if Israel crosses its limits in Syria. Israel will repent it.’ Israel is consistently carrying out airstrikes on Iranian bases and pro-Iran terrorist organizations in Syria. The Israeli offensive in Syria has intensified over the past few weeks. In the wake of the attacks, senior Iranian political officials had issued threats to Israel. 

Within a few hours after Iran’s threat, Israeli fighter jets attacked the Syrian capital, Damascus. The Syrian Army has released information on the attacks and said they were launched from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Also, the Syrian Army claims that Syria’s air defence system successfully intercepted the Israeli attacks. The Syrian Army has not released details on the extent of damage caused by or locations of the airstrikes. 

According to UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israel launched the attacks on an Iranian military base near Damascus. The attacks killed nine Iran-affiliated militants, which include Iranian as well as Pakistani and Afghan terrorists. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Israeli strikes lasted for at least half an hour although the Syrian air defence system intercepted some of them. Despite that, Iranian arms warehouses as even its missile stockpile were destroyed, as per the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. 

Israel launched the attacks in Syria after midnight on Sunday. Just hours before that, the Israeli air force had begun the four-day military drills dubbed the Rose of Galilee in the country’s north on Sunday evening. On Monday, the Israeli military announced that it had started the exercise to improve its air force’s combat readiness. The military drills will focus on Israeli airspace security, offensive airstrikes, and intelligence gathering. Moreover, the exercise is believed to be a warning to Iran as well as Syria.
