Beirut: Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas terrorist group, has declared that “Jerusalem is the centre of the struggle against Israel, and there is no alternative but to liberate Jerusalem through a military conflict.” The Hamas leader made the claims after meeting with Hassan Nasrallah, the head of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist group in Lebanon. Also, Haniyeh visited Iran and held talks with key leaders ahead of his meeting with the Hezbollah chief. 

The Hamas leader, who has sought refuge in Qatar, has been on a tour of Arab-Gulf allies for the past few days. After arriving in Lebanon on Sunday, the Hamas leader met with President Michel Ayoun and the speaker of parliament, Nabih Berri. Ismail Haniya then met with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. Details of the events have not yet been released. However, speaking to the media after the meeting, the Hamas leader called on Palestinians to show solidarity in the fight against Israel. 

Middle Eastern and international media have reported that the leaders of the two terrorist organizations discussed the conflict against Israel. Hamas and Hezbollah heads are said to have addressed how Hamas and Hezbollah could form a united front against Israel soon; and how they could use the experience of the 11-day conflict against Israel in May. 

In the 11-day conflict, Hamas had fired thousands of rockets at Israel. Some of these rockets had crashed near Jerusalem. After the war, Hamas claimed it still had a stockpile of thousands of missiles. Even Hezbollah announced that it had a store of thousands of rockets and missiles. 

Although Hezbollah did not participate in the May conflict, Hamas and Hezbollah will join forces to attack Israel in the next battle, Hezbollah leader Nasrallah warned. However, the meeting and discussion between the leaders of these two terrorist organizations in the wake of the recent events indicate a different picture. Moreover, Iran’s tactics against Israel are seen as the evident motive behind the visit.
