Mosco/Havana/Washington – Russia is closely monitoring the developments in Cuba and the surrounding region. Russia has warned that interference of any foreign powers will not be tolerated in the internal matters of the sovereign country. Extensive protests were held in Cuba against the functioning of the Communist regime. The United States has supported the protests. Besides, Russia and some Latin American countries have expressed intense displeasure. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel accused that there is a US hand behind the protests in the country.
Thousands of Cuban citizens took to the streets to protest against the ruling communist regime. This is believed to be the first instance of such widespread protests against the ruling government in Cuba. The protestors claimed that the ruling communist government failed to provide the necessary facilities and amenities to the Cuban population. The citizens complained about a shortage of foodstuff, medicines and other life essentials because of the Coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the protestors also accused that the communist regime has stripped the Cuban citizens of their freedom.
