Tel Aviv: ‘Iran has violated all of the guidelines set in the JCPOA and is only around ten weeks away from acquiring weapons-grade materials necessary for a nuclear weapon. Now is the time for deeds – words are not enough,’ Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz warned. At the same time, the defence minister also highlighted the threat Iran poses to regional and global security, along with Israel.
Over the next few days, a special meeting will be held by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Israel has begun preparations to raise the issue of Iran’s nuclear and missile program; and its military activities in the Middle East at the meet. On the sidelines of the meeting, Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz conducted a summit with ambassadors of the UNSC member nations. During the meeting, Gantz reminded all of Iran’s violation of the nuclear deal made six years ago.
Israeli Defence Minister Gantz noted that ‘According to the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran was instructed to keep its uranium enrichment and the number of centrifuges within a certain limit. However, Iran has violated all the terms of the accord in the past six months. Iranian leaders had informed about it while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed it.’ Therefore, he called on the international community to act against Iran.
‘Iran can acquire materials required for building nuclear weapons in the next ten weeks. Tough sanctions need to be imposed on Iran if it is to be stopped in its endeavour. Simultaneously, adequate measures need to be taken against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, targeting cargo and oil tankers sailing through the international waters,’ Gantz demanded. The Israeli minister went on to say that it was the right time to act against Iran.
Israel has intensified its stand on Iran in the past few days. Furthermore, it pushed for action against Iran after the country launched drone attacks on an oil tanker off Oman. The United States and the UK have backed Israel’s demand. Meanwhile, international media has brought to attention that Israel has become more aggressive against Iran, just as Ebrahim Raisi was preparing for his swearing-in ceremony as the president.
