Russia launches massive missile strikes on Ukraine after drone attack on Crimea

Moscow/Kyiv: Russia responded strongly to the drone attack on the naval base in Crimea. On Monday, Russia launched a massive missile strikes in 10 regions of the country, including the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Russia’s Defense Ministry said the attacks targeted military sites, along with its infrastructure. It is the third large-scale Russian missile attack on Ukraine this month.

President Vladimir Putin warned of a heavy response to the Ukrainian regime after the attack. Russia then launched missile and drone attacks on several regions of Ukraine, including the capital city of Kyiv. Over the past few days, Russia focused more on drone strikes than missiles. However, after the attack on the naval base in Crimea, Russia has become aggressive again, and Monday’s missile attack appears to avenge it.

Since Monday morning, Russia has launched missile strikes on more than ten regions of Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv. The Tu-160 and Tu-95 bombers and Kh-55 missiles were used in the attacks. Also, some rockets were fired from warships. Ukraine reported that Russia had fired about 50 missiles. Also, local authorities said more than ten missiles were fired at the capital Kyiv.

In addition, Kharkiv in northern Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad in central Ukraine, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia and areas in western Ukraine were also targeted. Military posts in these provinces and electricity and water supply centres were attacked. After Monday’s attack, 80 per cent of the water supply in the capital, Kyiv, has been cut off. Simultaneously, Ukraine has lost almost 50 per cent of its power capacity. Therefore, the local authorities have indicated that the people of Ukraine will have to face darkness and life-threatening cold in the coming winter.

Meanwhile, Russia, which withdrew from the ‘Black Sea Grain Initiative’ after the attack in Crimea, has indicated that the transportation of ships through the Black Sea may face difficulties in the future. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that going ahead with the agreement on food exports without Russia’s security guarantees could be dangerous. At the same time, Turkish President Recep Erdogan has claimed that the transportation of food grains will continue as long as possible. Despite Russia’s warning, reports have surfaced that Ukraine sent nearly ten ships with food grains on Monday.
