Moscow/Kyiv: After the Russian withdrawal from Kherson city, the Ukrainian army has intensified attacks in other parts of Kherson. The Ukrainian authorities have also claimed that these attacks are receiving success. At the same time, Ukrainian President Zelensky admitted that Russian aggression in the Donbas region has intensified. Zelensky’s statement indicates that Russia is focusing more on its operations in the Donbas region.
Last week, the Russian Defence Minister announced the decision to withdraw from Kherson. Photographs of Russian troops crossing the Dnipro River to another area were also released. The Western media began to paint the picture of the Russian withdrawal as a big blow to President Vladimir Putin. The Russian Defence Minister and senior officials indicated that the units withdrawn from Kherson would be reorganized and deployed elsewhere.
In the wake of these events, intense fighting sparking off in Donetsk of the Donbas region is noteworthy. While initiating the campaign in Ukraine, the Russian President announced their main goal was to free people of Russian origin in the Donbas region from Nazi atrocities in Ukraine. From the beginning of the offensive, the Russian forces focused on capturing towns and important places in the area. Although the Russian troops have withdrawn from the capital Kyiv and Kharkiv of their Ukraine offensive, Russian forces have not retreated even an inch in the Donbas region. It clearly shows that Russia has no intentions of withdrawing from Donbas.
Even now, Russia is easily retreating from Kherson but has not allowed any disruption in its Donbas offensive. Ukraine is in quite a quandary as Russian forces retreating elsewhere are fighting hard in this region, and President Zelensky’s statement only confirms it. Zelensky said that his army is battling and withstanding hell in the area.
Meanwhile, some officials in Ukraine have warned against celebrating the Russian withdrawal from Kherson. Senior Ukrainian officials have cautioned that the Russian military on the other side of the river could launch a heavy offensive and exhaust the Ukrainian army. Ukrainian officials have drawn attention to the fact that although Russian troops have withdrawn from Kherson city, they will continue fighting for other parts of Kherson province.
