18 killed in helicopter crash in Ukrainian capital Kyiv

Kyiv: 18 people have died, and 25 have been injured in an accident caused due to a helicopter crash near Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. The dead include two Ukrainian ministers, a senior official, and children. The helicopter is of the ‘Eurocopter’ aircraft type, which is said to be part of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU). The helicopter crash is believed to have been an act of sabotage possibly.

The accident occurred near a kindergarten school in Brovary in Kyiv’s suburb. Nine people are said to have been in the helicopter at the time of the accident. These include Ukraine’s Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Yenin and senior official Yurii Lubkovych. Everyone in the helicopter died, and about ten children in the kindergarten school are said to have died. The US, Ukraine and European countries have expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the incident.
