Moscow/Washington, DC: ‘The Russians have not sent troops to their borders to fight against the western countries. But there are many options available to Russia to respond to them. We will not stop only using armed vehicles; everyone should be aware of this. In modern times, a war with Russia will be completely different’, President Putin said as he sternly threatened the US and western countries. The ‘Battle of Stalingrad’, a renowned war fought during the Second World War, has completed 80 years. The Russian President asserted that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would intensify in the future.
In the new year, Russia has intensified its Ukraine offensive, but Western countries have continued with the spate of announcements to provide weapons aid to Ukraine. Despite announcing billions of dollars worth of weapons last month, the US has once again indicated to supply new defence equipment to Ukraine. It includes two billion dollars worth of defence equipment from the US along with ‘Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb’ (GLSDB) and missiles, US sources said. Analysts claim that by approving the demand for weapons aid to Ukraine, the US has, in a way, approved the Ukrainian attacks on Russia.
On the other hand, many European countries, including Germany, have announced sending various types of tanks and artillery guns to Ukraine. Germany will send both ‘Leopard 1’ and ‘Leopard 2’ to Ukraine. France, Poland and the UK have also announced to supply their battle tanks to Ukraine. The UK has also hinted at sending fighter aircraft along with the battletanks. The US Biden administration is also in the process of delivering advanced MQ9 Reaper drones to Ukraine.
Analysts claim that this weapons’ aid from the West is a declaration of war from NATO against Russia. There are indications that Russia will therefore become more aggressive in the conflict against NATO. Various claims about the Russian Army’s mobilization and other plans have been reported in the media in the last few days. Therefore, President Putin’s warning seems to have confirmed these claims.
Putin compared the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to the struggle against the Nazi regime in World War II. The Russian President also pointed out that the war in Ukraine was similar to the ‘Battle of Stalingrad’ of World War II. In the ‘Battle of Stalingrad’, the Russian Army initially suffered a huge loss and was forced to withdraw. Nevertheless, Russia later defeated the Nazi Army by giving a befitting reply. Putin’s reference to this fact is striking.
Meanwhile, Russia has indicated the deployment of ‘Marker’ robotic battle tanks in the conflict in Ukraine. Russian military sources claim that Russia would respond to the German and US battle tanks with robotic battle tanks.
