US and Russia are moving closer to a nuclear war

Moscow/Washington: “The biggest threat at the moment is a direct military conflict between nuclear powers, and unfortunately, this threat is growing,” senior Russian official Vladimir Yermakov warned. ‘There is tremendous tension between the US and Russia, and Washington is increasingly carrying out subversive activities. If these activities continue, the possibility of a military conflict between the two countries will grow, and this conflict will become a matter of concern for the whole world,’ Yermakov further warned.

US and RussiaVladimir Yermakov is the Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Department. In an interview with the Russian news agency Tass, he warned that Russia and the United States are getting closer to nuclear war. He also claimed that the US policies and activities are the main reason responsible for it. Yermakov pointed out that the continued arms supply to Ukraine and other interventions by the US and NATO were provocative.

The senior Russian official advised that if the situation is to improve, the US must take concrete steps to reduce tensions and stop trying to undermine Russia’s security. Even as Yermakov is underlining the danger of a nuclear conflict, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has forecast the possibility of World War III.

‘We cannot say what the final trigger will be. However, the possibility of World War III has risen. We should all try to avoid the threat of an all-out World War III. Russia does not want the Third World War,’ Medvedev said. On the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made the West aware of its nuclear preparedness. After that, Russia caused a stir by announcing the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Meanwhile, Russia has included the advanced T-14 Armata tank in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Russian news agency reported that more than ten tanks had been sent to the Ukrainian front. The speed of this tank, which uses advanced technology and protective armour, is 80 kilometres per hour. These are considered the most advanced and modern tanks in the Russian armed forces. Some analysts claimed that by sending the T-14 Armata to the frontline of the conflict, Russia has signalled to intensify Ukraine’s conflict soon.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that 60 foreign soldiers were killed in a missile attack on a Ukrainian base in Donetsk. Russia is said to have used the ‘Iskander ballistic missiles for this attack. Russian officials said the soldiers killed were part of the Georgian Legion unit. Furthermore, Russia said more than 15 military vehicles and a large stockpile of weapons were also destroyed in the attack.
