Russian military initiates fierce attacks on east Ukrainian cities

Moscow/Kyiv: The Russian military has fired scores of missiles, artillery guns, rockets and drones on various cities in eastern Ukraine in the last 24 hours. More than 250 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the Russian attack, the Russian Defence Ministry said. A Defence Ministry spokesman said the attacks also targeted US rocket systems, artillery guns and radars. At the same time, Russia has begun advancing towards Bakhmut, recognised as a part whose battle will prove decisive, in Donbas, while Russia’s Wagner Group claims to have taken control over a part of Bakhmut’s border.

On Thursday and Friday, Russia launched a large number of missile and drone attacks in Ukraine. Then on Saturday, Russia once again targeted various cities in the east Ukraine frontline. It includes areas ranging from Kharkiv in the northeast to Kherson in the south. Russia fired missiles and drones again in some cities on this front. Attacks were carried out with the help of artillery guns, rockets, battle tanks and helicopters in Kharkiv and nearby areas.

A major military operation was also carried out in the Krasnyi Lyman area of Donetsk province. Russian Defence Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said more than 250 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the attacks that began on Saturday. The Russian spokesman claimed that the attacks also severely damaged the US systems. The Russian Defence Ministry also said attacks by Ukrainian drones and rockets were foiled in Luhansk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia provinces.

On the other hand, the battle to capture the decisive city of Bakhmut in Donetsk is intensifying. On Saturday, The Wagner Group, a Russian private military company, seized the Krasnaya Gora part of the Bakhmut border. The region is said to be on the north boundary of Bakhmut city. At the same time, the group also claimed that the Ukrainian Army was striving hard to save the city. Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, has claimed that Russia may have to take several months to take control of the entire Donbas region, given the ongoing conflict in Bakhmut.

Meanwhile, the media said that the US and Ukrainian defence ministers held discussions on Saturday in the wake of the deadly Russian attacks. Sources in both countries said that possible Russian strikes and new arms supply were among the discussed topics.
