Jerusalem/Cairo: The ongoing conflict between terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip and Israel intensified for the third day. In just a few hours, 547 rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel. Additionally, Israel targeted 166 sites of Islamic Jihad in Gaza. Another senior commander of this terrorist organization has been killed in the attack, and the number of people killed in Gaza has reached 27. Islamic Jihad, as well as Hamas, warned of continuing rocket attacks on Israel. At the same time, the US and Arab countries have appealed to Israel for a ceasefire.
Rockets rained down on Israel from the Gaza Strip last week after an Islamic Jihad terrorist died on a hunger strike in Israeli custody. Israel’s air defence system, Iron Dome, destroyed 90 per cent of these rockets. After this, Israel warned that the Islamic Jihad attacks would be given a befitting reply. Two days ago, on Tuesday, Israeli warplanes launched strikes on Islamic Jihad positions in Gaza. In this, three important commanders of the said terrorist organization were killed along with 12 civilians. Another Islamic Jihad terrorist was killed in Wednesday’s airstrike.
After this, there were reports that Egypt had established a ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad. However, Israel clarified that there was no truth to it. Rockets started raining down on Israel from the Gaza Strip. According to the Israel Defence Forces, 547 rockets were fired from Gaza. Of these, the Iron Dome intercepted 200 that had reached Israel’s borders. One hundred seven rockets collapsed in the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces also released a video of the Iron Dome’s interception. The Israeli Defense Forces also reported that airstrikes were carried out on 166 places of Islamic Jihad in Gaza.
The Arab League criticized this action by Israel. Arab countries have demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip from Israel. An Israeli newspaper has reported that the US Biden administration has also started pressuring Israel for a ceasefire. Egypt’s President Abdel Fateh al-Sisi is said to be trying to win the conflict. Reports suggest the Egyptian delegation will soon arrive in Tel Aviv for this purpose. However, it seems that Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza do not want a ceasefire. Both these organizations have announced that they will continue to attack Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that “Operation Shield and Arrow” against terrorists in Gaza is not over. Netanyahu asserted that this struggle against Islamic Jihad would end only with the victory of Israel. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has ordered the military to be ready for major operations. Reports say that Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is discussing this with the foreign ministers of the US, Europe and Arab countries.
