Warsaw – Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has demanded that the United States and NATO should deploy nuclear weapons in Poland against the backdrop of Russia’s deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus. In addition, he said that Poland should be part of NATO’s nuclear sharing programme. The US is said to have deployed 150 nuclear weapons in about six European countries.

Moreover, President Putin had instructed Russia’s nuclear forces to be alert after the Russia-Ukraine conflict began last year. After that, in the last 16 months, Russia conducted three exercises with its nuclear forces and tested the advanced Sarmat missile twice. There have also been indications that the Sarmat missile, which is said to be Russia’s most advanced nuclear weapon, will be deployed on combat duty in the coming times.

Subsequently, Putin shared the news of Russia’s nuclear weapons reaching Belarus. Western countries, analysts, and officials have been continuously expressing the threat of nuclear war due to these activities initiated by Russia. Besides, US President Joe Biden had also recently warned that the threat posed by Russia’s tactile weapons was real.

Thus, stating the increasing threat from Russia as the reason, Poland has demanded the deployment of nuclear weapons in their country. A few months ago, Poland approved establishing a US defence base and signed a comprehensive defence agreement.
